Lady Gaga delivered an already legendary Super Bowl halftime show

lady gaga super bowl

Lady Gaga started her halftime show at the Super Bowl by literally falling from the sky.

The pop star was decked out in a bodysuit and fishnets for one of the most high-octane shows we've seen at the Super Bowl. She made frequent use of acrobatics, platforms, and a whole lot of lights. She even managed to catch a ball and fall from a stage by the end.

What might've been most impressive was how strong Gaga's vocal performance sounded despite all the theatrics. She performed a medley of her biggest hits, including "Bad Romance,""Born This Way,""Telephone," and "Just Dance." She also took to a piano for a rendition of her new single "A Million Reasons."

There was speculation that Gaga, a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter in the 2016 presidential election, might get political for her halftime show. But beyond a pointed reference to the Pledge of Allegiance, quoting, "one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all," Gaga kept it to the music.

Reaction to the performance online was overall extremely impressed. This is a woman, America was reminded, who knows how to put on a show.

Lady Gaga at the Super Bowl.

Talk about making an entrance.

Lady Gaga started her Super Bowl halftime performance on the roof of the NRG stadium performing "This Land is Your Land" before diving down to the stage to perform a medley of her best hits from "Poker Face" to "Bad Romance."

It was insane.

A lot of people instantly referenced "Spongebob."

There were a lot of great reactions too.

Lady Gaga thrilled the Super Bowl crowds Sunday night with a performance that began with her literally falling out of the sky.

But it turns out that the Houston home that she stayed at over Super Bowl weekend was equally over the top.

Reportedly worth $20 million, the Villa Encantado has more than 9,700 square feet of space, plus some extravagant amenities. When she wasn't prepping for her performance, Lady Gaga could enjoy the home's massive pool area, private screening room, and fully equipped gym.

Though she stayed in the home on Airbnb's dime, the mansion would usually cost travelers $10,000 a night.

Lady Gaga's jump from the top of the Super Bowl stadium was actually an edited illusion

lady gaga super bowl flight arrow

Lady Gaga seemed to fly seamlessly from the top of NRG Stadium in Houston to a platform below during her stunning Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday.

But it turns out the drop from the top of NRG was actually a prerecorded stunt. USA Today spoke to two top people at Intel Drones— which provided the drones in the sky behind Gaga that displayed the US flag and the Pepsi logo — who confirmed that her stunt was done in advance.

The Intel sources said the opening jump was filmed ahead of time because of "weather and environment" issues. Basically, if it had rained during the Super Bowl, the roof of the stadium where Gaga was standing would have been closed. While the drones still could have operated, they said, Gaga couldn't have flown down from a closed stadium roof.

But Gaga did drop from the top of NRG Stadium in the prerecorded bit and didn't use a stunt double, so we can still be impressed.

Clever editing made it appear both at home and on the jumbotrons at the stadium that Gaga's drop from the top of the stadium led directly to her flight on cables in the middle of the stadium. But on Sunday, Gaga started from a lower point, as you can see in this video from TMZ and another video from inside the stadium:

Tiffany is facing one of the most uncertain times in history (TIF)

Breakfast at Tiffany's Paramount

Luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co. is facing a slew of challenges.

Research firm Mizuho Securities just downgraded the brand to "neutral" during a time where sales are falling, profits are diminishing, and executives are leaving the company.

Tiffany had a brutal holiday season, with sales down 4% from the year before.

The jewelry company announced Sunday that CEO Frederic Cumenal stepped down, a move that's concerning analysts. Former CEO Michael Kowalski is leading the company until a replacement is found. The company's CFO and design director have also departed in the past year.

Another one of Tiffany's foremost challenges?

Consumers are increasingly unwilling to shell out for jewelry.

As shoppers increasingly spend on categories like technology, healthcare, and travel, jewelry is less of a priority. It's possible some holiday customers chose to buy Apple Watches instead of Tiffany bracelets.

The downward sales trend goes back several years, as evidenced by this Mizuho chart.

tiffany jewelry sales

Tiffany claims sales were hurt because some shoppers can't make it into the flagship store.

The Fifth Avenue store is located near Trump Tower, which has been overrun with tourists, protesters, and security since the election.

"Management attributed the lower sales to local customer spending, with a decline in US sales exacerbated by a 14% decline at the company's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York, which we attribute at least partly to post-election traffic disruptions," the company said in a January statement.

While shares are up 24% in the past year, growth has stalled in recent months.

Tiffany is currently working on a turnaround by investing in the customer experience, marketing, and business operations.

It also hired Lady Gaga to star in its first Super Bowl ad.

'I'm proud of my body': Lady Gaga addresses her fat shamers after Super Bowl performance

lady gaga super bowl halftime show

The INSIDER Summary:

‱  Lady Gaga performed at the Super Bowl 51 halftime show wearing a cropped jacket.
‱  People online said her "stomach rolls" were either unflattering or inspiring.
‱  The singer responded to fans and critics on Instagram, saying "I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too."

Lady Gaga performed a killer ensemble of dance pop hits at the Super Bowl 51 halftime show, but some viewers at home spent their time afterwards focusing on the singer's physical appearance instead of her vocal and dance talents.

Twitter trolls began commenting on Gaga's "fat" or "stomach rolls" visible during the second half of her performance when she wore a cropped Versace jacket styled like a football uniform.

Geek.com culture writer Carli Velocci recounted an exchange her parents had about Gaga's body on Twitter:

And even people who believed Gaga's body and performance were inspiring or impressive still pointed out her "rolls" or "fat."

In the hours and days afterwards, publications including Elle and Bustle ran articles about how Lady Gaga fans were standing up to "delusional body shamers" or why body shaming the artist was "completely absurd."

Now, after a couple days of public discussion over her body, Gaga herself has entered the conversation. Late on the night of February 7, Gaga posted a photo on Instagram and addressed both her fans and critics.

A photo posted by xoxo, Joanne (@ladygaga) on

"I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too," Lady Gaga wrote in the caption. "No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don't need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed."

As noted by Bustle, Gaga has been open with fans in the past about her struggles with eating disorders and body image. In 2012, Gaga started a "body revolution" trend after sharing pictures of herself with the caption "bulimia and anorexia since I was 15."

Gaga is clearly a veteran when to comes to addressing body shaming and preconceived notions of normalcy. And her fans, lovingly known as "little monsters," will continue defending Gaga's message of love and acceptance.

lady gaga super bowl performannce

"Be you, and be relentlessly you," Gaga's latest Instagram post caption continued. "That's the stuff of champions. Thank you so much everyone for supporting me. I love you guys."

Maybe next time the armchair critics should listen more carefully to the words in Gaga's songs, rather than focusing on her outfits or stomach. The strongest message for haters comes from "Born This Way"— one of the songs belted out by Gaga at the Super Bowl: "I'm beautiful in my way, 'cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track baby, I was born this way."

Lady Gaga FaceTimed Prince William to talk about mental health

prince william lady gaga mental healthPrince William has teamed up with Lady Gaga in a bid to bring an end to the "shame" of talking about mental health.

In a video broadcast live on Facebook, William and Lady Gaga chatted about how important speaking freely about mental health can be in helping to shatter the stigma around it.

The discussion came as part of this year’s Time to Talk Day for the Heads Together charity mental health campaign after Lady Gaga recently penned a moving open letter to fans about living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The Born This Way singer told William: "It made me very nervous at first, for me waking up every day and feeling sad and going on stage is very hard to describe.

"There is a lot of shame attached to mental illness, you feel like there is something wrong with you.

"In my life I go ‘oh my goodness, look at all these beautiful wonderful things that I have, I should be so happy’, but you can’t help it if you wake up in the morning and you are so tired and you are so sad and you are so full of anxiety that you can barely think.

prince william lady gaga facetime mental health

"It’s like saying, this is a part of me and that’s okay."

William praised the artist on her courage over speaking out and encouraged others to do the same.

The Duke said: "It's time that everyone speaks up and really feels very normal about mental health, it's the same as physical health.

"Everybody has mental health and we shouldn't be ashamed of it and just having a conversation with a friend or family member can really make such a difference.

"For me, the little bits that I’ve learnt so far is that it’s really important to have this conversation. You won’t be judged.

"It’s really important to break open that fear and that taboo that will only lead to more problems down the line."

The father-of-two, who with his brother Harry and the Duchess of Cambridge have championed the Heads Together campaign, has called for an end to the "stiff upper lip" culture, saying he wants Prince George and Princess Charlotte to be able to talk about their emotions.

It comes after Prime Minister Theresa May praised Prince Harry for his bravery in revealing that he sought counselling to come to terms with the death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The headliners of any given year's Coachella festival are pretty much music royalty, and at the 2017 fest that just wrapped last weekend, they were definitely treated as such in their accomdations for their stay.

Drake, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar stayed in luxurious homes provided by Airbnb. The large pool spaces, fire pits, mountain views, and in-home bars (and a wine cellar) gave the artists a lot of room to relax in between their performances, which last over two weekends. One of the Airbnb homes even has a tennis court. As with just about everything that goes on at Coachella, these rentals go all out.

They also come at hefty prices as high as $10,000 a night. But the best part for the stars? They got to stay in them for free. (They shouted out their thanks on social media.)

If the image credit didn't give it away, yes — she's Lady Gaga.

Perhaps more than any other celebrity alive, Gaga has cultivated her celebrity around her look. She wears a lot of makeup and elaborate costumes to look completely different. With all her different looks, it's easier to identify Gaga as "the singer who wears crazy outfits" rather than by what she really looks like.

Starbucks released a line of new drinks with Lady Gaga for an important cause

lady gaga starbucks drinkThe INSIDER Summary:

  • Starbucks and Lady Gaga teamed up to create a line of drinks called Cups of Kindness.
  • There are four new drinks that include the OmbrĂ© Pink Drink and Matcha Lemonade.
  • The best part about the launch is that Starbucks will donate 25 cents from each drink sold to the singer's Born This Way foundation. You can get your hands on the refreshing drinks starting tomorrow.

Lady Gaga is pretty busy these days filming a movie with Bradley Cooper (which you can be in, BTW) and Starbucks has been just as buzzing with their ever-growing menu of snazzy drinks (hello, Unicorn Frapp, Mermaid Frapp, and Pink Ombre yumminess). But now the two powerhouses have teamed up to bring you Cups of Kindness.

Starting tomorrow, June 13, Starbucks and Lady Gaga want to encourage everyone to do one simple thing: Be kind. “We’re healthier and happier when we live our lives with compassion and our communities are stronger when we treat one another with generosity and respect,” said Lady Gaga. “Born This Way Foundation and I are so excited to partner with Starbucks to help inspire positivity and love through the Cups of Kindness collection.”

Featuring four delicious drink options — our beloved Pink Drink and now a Violet Drink (remember the Purple Drink?), the OmbrĂ© Pink Drink, and a new Matcha Lemonade — Starbucks will donate 25 cents from each beverage sold at participating Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada through June 19 to Born This Way Foundation. With Starbucks committing to a $250,000 contribution at the very minimum, the money will go towards programs that “support youth wellness and empowerment by fostering kindness, improving mental health resources, and creating more positive environments.”

And while any of the four delicious drinks will help to raise funds for an awesome cause, Gaga herself has a fave, saying, “I adore the entire collection and I instantly fell in love with the Matcha Lemonade.” Sounds like we’ll have to give it a taste or two.

  • Lady Gaga was barista for a day to promote her new Cup of Kindness line of drinks at Starbucks.
  • Gaga wore the signature green apron over a floral bow-neck frock with pink sunglasses.
  • A video shows the singer shaking up one of her new beverages for a customer.
  • The new line of drinks will raise funds for the Born This Way foundation.

What would you do if you went to order your fave Starbucks
drink and your barista was someone
familiar? More than familiar, in fact, but famous? Like, Lady Gaga famous?

That was the exact sitch coffee-lovers found themselves in yesterday when Mother Monster herself showed up to one lucky Starbucks location to promote the new Cup of Kindness drinks she launched with the mega-roaster to help raise funds for the Born This Way foundation. Starbucks is donating .25 from every purchase of each of the four drinks included in the beverage collection to the organization Gaga co-founded with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, which launches empowering programs for youth.

A post shared by xoxo, Gaga (@ladygaga) on

Though the “The Cure” singer glammed things up a bit with a pair of pink sunnies and a floral bow-neck frock (because, Gaga), she did her part and hopped behind the counter in the brand’s signature green apron and a tag bearing her name to whip up drinks from the collection, like her fave, the Matcha Lemonade (yum).

A post shared by xoxo, Gaga (@ladygaga) on

And just in case you thought the songstress was just popping in for a quick photo op, you’d be wrong: There’s actual video of her making bevs for customers— just look at that shake!

Marketing ploy though it was, it worked: The "A Star Is Born" actress reportedly had a line out the door to witness her try her hand at the art of coffee-making. We can’t say we blame them — we’d have been right there too!

Versaclimber

Celebrities have a new favorite workout that's a throwback 1980s.

The VersaClimber is a cardio machine that mimics the sensation of climbing a mountain.

It's been around since 1981 when it was first created in a mechanical engineer's garage in California.

"The big heyday for VersaClimber was the late '80s. It was running on all cylinders. It was very, very busy," Brett Collins, the sales manager of Versaclimber, told ESPN.

Now, it's experiencing a comeback and everyone from Lady Gaga to Hilary Duff swear by the machine.

Find out what all the fuss is about below:

When you're on a VersaClimber, you stand upright and hold onto the handles, while pushing the pedals with your feet. The machine only moves as fast as you do, so you set your own pace.

The idea is to do a mix of short and long strokes and adjust the range and speed of each stride. While one leg steps, the arm reaches out — it is a push and pull move.

  • The chilling show's new season will take on the recent US election.

Lady Gaga and American Horror Story have just utterly disappointed fans of the marvelously macabre series. While the show has big plans for the chilling road ahead — including taking on the recent US election and doing an eventual crossover— the singer’s scenes of supreme spookiness may unfortunately be a thing of the past.

lady gaga

Despite rumors that Gaga would be a part of the seventh season (with one Twitter user sharing a supposed Vogue magazine leak which apparently confirmed the star’s appearance), Entertainment Weekly is saying that those claims are flat-out false.

While Lady Gaga enthralled viewers as the vampire Countess in season five’s Hotel as well as during Roanoke as the Witch of the Wood and fans would surely love to see the singer take on another creep-tastic role, it looks like we’ll at least have to wait for season eight, nine, or ten.

Mother Monster is back, y’all. She’s been filming a movie with Bradley Cooper, reminding us to be kind with Starbucks, and now she’s rehearsing for her Joanne World Tour, but took a moment to show off her new hair color on Instagram.

"Like a summer peach 🍑 jus juicin’ xoxo, Joanne #joanneworldtour #rehearsal," she wrote under a photo of her lovely new locks styled in a half up, half down ‘do. She finished her look with minimal eye makeup and a rosy lip. That’s one hell of a makeunder — she’s practically unrecognizable!

While Gaga has been known to show off some wild looks in the past, she’s seriously toned down her M.O. as of late. Yet this peachy new hue is still super fun — but shockingly wearable.

But the question is, will the “Million Reasons” singer keep her hair when she kicks off her tour on August 1? She’s known for constantly reinventing herself, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the answer is no.

Here's the major problem behind celebrities' 'no makeup' selfies that no one is talking about

Gal Gadot Instagram Selfie

The INSIDER Summary:

  • With the help of several celebrities, "no makeup" selfies are taking over the internet.
  • Although gorgeous, these photos don't do much to inspire confidence.
  • Instead, they are sometimes viewed as examples of what natural beauty should look like.
  • Greater transparency could be the key to helping others truly embrace their natural beauty.

For millions of social media users, taking and posting selfies is routine practice.

Going bare-faced without makeup or a photo filter, however, is not as common. But recently, the idea of "less is more" has become more popular — especially on social media.

Several celebrities including Alicia Keys, Chrissy Teigen, Lady Gaga, and Heidi Klum have endorsed the "no makeup" trend on Instagram, ditching their glamorous looks for a softer approach.

In theory, attempts to do away with the pressure of unrealistic beauty standards are honorable. However, while celebrities' makeup-free selfies may seem inspiring, they can often be problematic.

Unlike the majority of people without makeup, none of the A-listers above appear to have any blemishes, wrinkles, or skin concerns. They still look flawless upon first glance.

In reality, though, their selfies — although gorgeous and empowering — offer potentially harmful examples as to what natural beauty should look like. Among the things not discussed, perhaps, are the faux eyelash extensions, lip fillers, doctored eyebrows, and expensive spa treatments that many celebrities pay for that the average person simply cannot afford.

For example, Kourtney Kardashian shared a video of her getting a "vampire facial" on Snapchat earlier in June. According to E! News, the daunting procedure is supposed to rejuvenate your skin and requires being poked with needles filled with a patient's own blood. Each session can range anywhere from $900 to $1,500, the New York Times reported.

Perhaps, instead of posting makeup-free selfies as though it is perfectly natural to look the way they do without makeup, celebrities could be more transparent about the treatments and/or procedures that they have had done.

YouTuber Gina Shkeda set a great example when her makeup-free selfie went viral on Twitter in March.

Her response was met with great acclaim.

This is just one way to promote healthy messages. It also encourages people to feel great about themselves no matter what. After all, how you view yourself shouldn't be based off what someone else chooses to do with their body.

The documentary, "Gaga: Five Foot Two," is from filmmaker Chris Moukarbel, who also did "Banksy Does New York," and will show a year in the life of the Mother Monster.

According to a press release, the documentary will show Gaga's relationship struggles, health issues, and the singer navigating and conquering insecurities.

"I had a rare opportunity to create a portrait of an artist with such an open heart and mind. I feel really lucky that Gaga trusted me and my vision," said Moukarbel.

Gaga released four clips from the upcoming documentary on her Instagram account Thursday of what fans can expect, and it looks like it will be an emotional, raw look at the superstar.

In one clip, Gaga is at a doctor about to undergo a procedure. Neither she nor the doctor say what it is for, but there's talk of trying to relieve the singer of intense pain in her face. The pain is described as feeling like she's "running from the tiger all the time."

The nameless doctor also suggests there's a psychological factor to her pain.

In late 2016, Gaga opened up about suffering from chronic pain. After receiving messages from fans about their experiences, the singer shared some of her remedies including an infrared sauna.

I was so overwhelmed by the empathy, confessions & personal stories of chronic pain in response to my previous post I thought what the hell. Maybe I should just share some of my personal remedies I've acquired over the past five years. Everyone's body and condition is different U should consult w ure Dr. but what the heck here we go! When my body goes into a spasm one thing I find really helps is infrared sauna. I've invested in one. They come in a large box form as well as a low coffin-like form and even some like electric blankets! You can also look around your community for a infrared sauna parlor or homeopathic center that has one. I combine this treatment with marley silver emergency blankets (seen in the photo) that trap in the heat and are very cheap, reusable and effective for detox as well as weight loss! In order to not overheat my system and cause more inflammation i follow this with either a VERY cold bath, ice bath (if u can stand it, it's worth it) or the most environmentally savvy way is to keep many reusable cold packs in the freezer ( or frozen peas' n carrots'!) and pack them around the body in all areas of pain. Hope this helps some of you, it helps me to keep doing my passion, job and the things I love even on days when I feel like I can't get out of bed. Love you and thank you for all your positive messages.

In another clips from the documentary, she teases her long-standing feud with Madonna. Gaga has been accused several times of doing more than being inspired by some of Madonna's classic songs. (Just take a listen to this mashup of "Born this Way" and "Express Yourself".)

There's not much to the clip. Gaga says she admires Madonna before being questioned about her sincerity in an awkwardly edited clip that gets cut off as soon as she says, "The only thing that really bothers me about her is ..."

A third clip shows Gaga bearing her soul and getting personal about how she doesn't like feeling alone.

"I'm alone Brandon every night. And all these people will leave. Right? They will leave and then I'll be alone. And I go from everyone touching me all day and talking at me all day to total silence," Gaga is heard saying in a clip uploaded to Instagram from her documentary.

It's clear that it's difficult for the singer to let her guard down a bit. In a separate audio recording to her fans she said that she hasn't watched any of the clips she posted on social media for fans. She also divulged that she hasn't watched the entire documentary and doesn't plan to before it premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival and airs later on Netflix.

"I have seen a few short clips of the documentary, but I decided not to watch it all the way through, or most of it for that matter, because I can't be objective about myself. So, you'll see it before I do," said Gaga.

"Gaga: Five Foot Two" will be available to stream on Netflix September 22.
